Water Damage

“We had drywall damage to several rooms and had never known exactly what had to be done but just knew it was beyond what we could do. Craig was very helpful throughout the entire repair/replacement process…”

All this snow is not always a good thing. Notice the water damage evident in this basement.

Do you have any water damage from all of this snow? It is more possible than ever before that with this record snowfall in our area you may have some sort of water damage that has occurred. Hopefully not but if you do WE CAN HELP with your repairs. Most common water damages will happen from water penetration through a block/ concrete foundation wall, area of siding – trim or window that needs to be caulked or an ice dam? As the snow melts take a walk around the INTERIOR of your homes outer walls. Look to see if any ceilings, walls and or trim have any discoloring, peeling or bubbling appearance.

An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of a room and prevents melting snow/water from draining off the roof. Ice dams can form when as little as 1 or 2 inches of snow accumulates on a roof and if the snowfall is followed by several days of sub-freezing temperatures.

Ice dams develop as snow on the upper part of the roof. As it melts, water runs down the roof slope under the blanket of snow and refreezes into a band of ice at the roof’s edge creating a “dam”. Additional snow-melt pools against the dam and eventually leaks into the home or building through the roof or roof trim. Ice dams can cause rotted wood, wet insulation, and water damage to interior walls and ceilings.

Some of the most difficult and time consuming repairs can come from water damage. Drywall can soak up water like a sponge and what appears to be a 2’ x 3’ water damaged area may in fact be a 6’ x 6’ area. When drywall is soaked, the water damaged drywall must be cut out. At that time we can better assess your situation and if mold is present we can remediate as needed. We can also replace insulation if necessary.
